"Golden Glow" a pastel painting

I have never tried to do a sunbeam through trees in pastel before.  I learned a trick in watercolor class - to use a damp sea sponge and a ruler and wipe a "beam" from a dry painting.  But I know of no technique in pastel.  So, it was totally experimental here.

I would have like to use less pastel over the watercolor underpainting, to let it peak through more, but it didn't look right.  I think I'd like to try this scene again in the future and see if I can show more watercolor.  "It's the challenge that calls me!"

It is a miracle! Your pastels! Wow! I love this scene! Very impressive!
Beautiful shades of sky and huge trees! So much alive that you want to look as though you sit there on the stump and contemplates the last moments of the day :-)
This sun creates a mysterious, as if some miracle happens now! :-)

WOW!
Carolyn, You're a great experimenter!

The experiment worked and it looks great. Do you always combine watercolours with pastels?
You should try to paint a snowy painting using only watercolours and all those little effects you know.

Thanks Ti-Igra and Kira. Yes, I may do a snow scene in watercolor too. So many paintings to do...only so much time!

OMG Carolyn! This is a wonderful painting. I can't believe how the pastels brought the underpainting to life! I can almost feel the sun on my face!

This painting is really good---the darkness of the trees in the background are perfect! And that "ray-star" looks better here than on WC--why? Removing pastel from Wallis carefully isn't to hard---brush that area if you need to with a hoghair brush over a trashcan or something--or outside---it will smudge a bit but easy to fix---then take masking tape, roll it into a circle and dob the offending passtle area to get as much more color off as you can---when done you can use a kneaded eraser dobbing over that---and sometimes even a pink pearl will do the jog!! Ponting uses a retractable , clicable earasr on that Senilier pastel card that she likes so much and it works. Amazing to me---but I would leave this as it is---its very nice work!
